OOC/FPK Only: WARNING: Contains spoilers for Season 2 of Heroes Takezo Kensei was the subject of legend in Japan, and of the stories told to Hiro Nakamura by his father as he grew up. It is Kensei's sword that Hiro must find and wield in S2 of Heroes. According to the legend, Kensei was a Japanese hero, well known for saving Japan from "White Beard" in the 17th century. However, when Hiro travels to the past, he discovers that Kensei was, in fact, an Englishman come to Japan to make his fortune. Hiro pushes him toward becoming the hero of Hiro's childhood, taking on his persona to defeat 12 bandits, and pushing him toward the sword-maker's daughter, Yaeko, who is supposed to be Kensei's princess of legend. It develops that Kensei has powers of his own--the ability to spontaneously regenerate and heal from any injury. Once Kensei adjusts to the discovery of this power, he tries to figure out how to use it to his advantage, all the while being pushed by Hiro to claim his destiny. He finally agrees, only to find himself betrayed, setting down a vow to destroy all that Hiro loves in retaliation. His ability to heal has also, apparently, made him immortal and he is living in the present day as Adam Monroe, one of the founders of the Company, with a continuing agenda of his own.
